DownloadPage is for busy founders and business owners who don't want to waste their time coding their own download center for their products.

If you already know how to code and have a bunch of time to spare, you'll probably want to implement this yourself. Also, if you're one of the few businesses where global sales tax compliance is a must, you may be better off using a MoR despite their many issues.

DownloadPage is not a payment processor or a Merchant of Record. We securely host files and serve them to your customers post-checkout, without charging you a percentage of your revenue.

For example, Gumroad charges 30% if you make a sale through their marketplace. Others like Lemon Squeezy and PayHip have lower fees, but still take somewhere close to 10% of each sale. That adds up over time.

Correct: you will need to pay Stripe the usual 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction (plus any extra products you sign up for via Stripe). However, we do not charge any transaction fees on top of that.

For most small businesses, it's not as bad as you think. If you’re selling a few ebooks or digital products, most countries don’t require tax collection unless you hit certain revenue thresholds (like €10,000+ in the EU or $100K-$500K in most US states). It's very unlikely a tax agency will come after you for a few small sales. And if you do grow or if you're already further along?
